From: 28 Jul '18 10:00am -
To: 31 Jan '21 04:30pm

As a centre we are aim is to help the community we serve in anyway possible. Management and retailers have recently undertaken an amazing awareness training session by a Dementia Friends Champion to help us understand some of the challenges faced by people who are living with dementia, autism or other sensory issues whilst shopping with us.

With this in mind we have introduced Sensory Sundays every last Sunday in each month.

These changes  we have introduced such as requesting the stores reduce the volume of their music and security/cleaning staff to be available to assist wherever possible. We really hope that this will help make a difference and be more inclusive. Very much like to involve our community as a focus group, to feedback any of the issues they find which makes shopping a challenge. If you would like to be involved in this please contact us for more information.

This will be every Sunday throughout the year!

MEDIEVAL TARGET SPORTS

We operate from two rustic woodland locations. Our Archery ranges in Fordingbridge New Forest and Tolpuddle Dorset use professional quality bows, the same as those used in the Olympics! Our belief is that when introducing a beginner to archery you should offer the best equipment and coaching possible to help ensure success. We offer archery lessons and courses in the New Forest, Hampshire and in Tolpuddle, Dorset.

Our archery range is progressive and accommodates 14 people shooting on the line at any 1 time. We are very keen on keeping people fully active and shooting for the whole session time, no having to share your go. Increase distance, bow power, have a fun competition and shoot for balloons as your archery skills improve. Our archery range is run by a professional ArcheryGB coach

Treasure boxes Fun activities for pre-schoolers

Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
From: 14 Apr '19 10:00am -
To: 31 Dec '19 04:00pm

Our range of treasure boxes have been developed with the needs of little learners in mind.

Each treasure box contains a selection of toys, stories and suggested activities designed to provide hands-on fun for inquisitive pre-schoolers (0-4 years). These boxes are designed to be used independently by parents/carers with their children.

There are 3 different treasure boxes to choose from:

Florence’s travelling trunk

This treasure box will help you explore the Fort’s hospital gallery. Find out what hospitals were like before Florence Nightingale made her reforms and how they changed afterwards. Play at being doctors and patients in our replica beds. This box contains medical themed books, toys and activities. Lots of fun for our next generation of doctors and nurses.

Scales and tales

The Art of Artillery gallery is home to the amazing dragon gun and the terrific tiger mortar. The scales and tales treasure box contains dragon and tiger themed books, soft toys and musical instruments to help you and your children bring history to life.

Sergeant Dobson’s kitchen

This treasure box will help you explore the Fort’s authentic garrison kitchen. Find out what the soldiers would have eaten in Victorian times, then have a go at making your own feast. This box contains food themed books, toys and activities – loads of clean cookery fun for budding chefs!

Price: Museum admission and use of the treasure boxes is free.

Availability and booking

The boxes are available every day. Simply request a treasure box at the visitor centre on arrival at the museum. A member of staff will provide you with a map, which will lead you to the relevant box, plus a code to open the lock.

Treasure boxes are issued on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability. During busy periods there may be a time limit on usage.

From: 16 Apr '19 11:00am -
To: 31 Oct '19 03:30pm

Royal Victoria Country Park was once the site of the world’s largest hospital, now only the iconic chapel remains

The Royal Victoria Hospital was built in 1856 and served the British military for over a century. As the British Army’s first purpose built hospital, Royal Victoria was a unique and ambitious project which would help change the face of the medical world.

The chapel is all that remains of the quarter mile long hospital and is home to our interesting heritage exhibition which gives people the opportunity to learn all about the history of the military hospital and see photographs and relics from the site's fascinating past.

The Chapel conservation works

Lottery funded

Thanks to grants from Hampshire County Council and Heritage Lottery Funding, the Park’s historic buildings and heritage have been restored. The project included conservation work to the original façade of the chapel and the removal of the 1980 extension. There is a new pavilion to the side of the chapel with a kiosk, toilets and offices, providing facilities for the chapel to host music and cultural events in the evenings. Around the park are points of information explaining the size of the hospital and its historical significance.

The project was completed in the summer of 2018; the chapel now offers public access all year round, five days a week - including the tower and gallery.

Tower tours

The 150ft tower of the Royal Victoria Chapel is a historic landmark that has stood over Southampton Water since 1856. It offers breath-taking panoramic views across Royal Victoria Country Park, the Solent and beyond.

Now, following a major conservation project, you can climb the 109 steps to the top of the Tower and marvel at the spectacular views.

Thanks to the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Hampshire County Council have completed a major conservation and restoration project which has seen the Royal Victoria Chapel returned to its Victorian splendour.

All income generated through Tower Visits support the running costs of the Royal Victoria Chapel.

Tropical Butterfly House

New Forest Wildlife Park
From: 14 Jun '19 10:00am -
To: 31 Oct '19 04:00pm

The Tropical Butterfly House is currently closed for the winter but will be open till 31st October.

In the pupae emerging box you can watch the pupa wiggle and move until the pupa split open to allow the adult butterfly to emerge. It takes many hours for its wings to dry and be ready to release into the butterfly house.

The exotic adult butterflies are colourful as they enjoy the warmth of the Tropical Butterfly House.

You may be lucky and see some butterfly eggs and/or caterpillars on the underside of the leaves (especially the banana leaves).

Can you find one of the many stick insects in the butterfly house?

Westquay Shopping Centre and Dining Level
From: 08 Jul '19 09:00am -
To: 06 Jan '20 10:00am

Starting Monday 1st July 2019 Westquay will be running a regular weekly quiet hour. This will involve the centre and its retailers working together to create a quieter than normal shopping environment. The hour is aimed at visitors, young and old that find large public spaces, noise and crowds of people difficult to deal with.

We hope this offer builds on the great work that’s been achieved over the last year with a range of our community partners to continuously work towards Westquay being an accessible environment throughout the year.

Penguin Cove is likely to be one of your first stops on your visit! Ever the favourites - join our feathered friends at 3.30pm for feeding time and see their streamlined bodies in action as they zoom around their watery world. Lying below a rocky outcrop is a large deep pool with a pebbly beach and stream, and it’s here that you’ll find our noisy little Humboldt penguins bobbing up and down in the water; diving and generally having a great time. Venture into our underground cave and you can see them “fly” through the water with their perfectly adapted, streamlined bodies. Find out more in our daily talk and feed!

KINGS & SCRIBES: THE BIRTH OF A NATION

Winchester Cathedral
From: 01 Oct '19 09:00am -
To: 01 Jan '21 05:00pm
Be one of the first to explore Kings and Scribes: The Birth of a Nation, a stunning new exhibition at Winchester Cathedral.
Winchester Cathedral is a living monument to the heritage of England and is one of the most historically significant buildings in Britain. From the time of Alfred the Great until after the Norman Conquest, Winchester was England’s capital and the Cathedral was its royal chapel. Much of England’s early history was based here and twelve English kings are believed to be buried here – meaning that Winchester can lay claim to being the first Royal Mausoleum. The opening of Kings and Scribes: The Birth of a Nation marks the culmination of an ambitious seven-year project to unlock the Cathedral’s stories and treasures by inspiring active engagement in the interpretation and exploration of our heritage.

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other generous supporters, a spectacular three-level exhibition space in the South Transept will take visitors on a journey through over 1,000 years of history, whilst offering awe-inspiring views of the Cathedral.

There are four exciting galleries to explore:

A SCRIBE’S TALE
The Winchester Bible is the largest and finest of all surviving 12th-century English bibles. Hear the incredible story of how and why the Winchester Bible was made, in the Cathedral where it was created, and admire its exquisite illuminated initials and elaborate decorative schemes.

THE BIRTH OF A NATION
Winchester played a unique role in shaping early English history and Old Minster, the Anglo-Saxon Cathedral, lay at the centre of its foundation. Join us on an intriguing journey of discovery as we unearth the secrets hidden within the Cathedral’s mortuary chests, meet influential Anglo-Saxon kings in the city from which they ruled and discover the role of Winchester’s Anglo-Saxon and Norman Cathedrals in the birth of a nation.

DECODING THE STONES
Unlock the mysteries of Winchester Cathedral, a building which has been created, destroyed and remade over centuries of struggle and Civil War. Decoding the Stones will tell the story of the Cathedral itself, linking modern restoration works and contemporary craftspeople with their medieval predecessors.

THE MEZZANINE
Explore the realities of monastic life at Winchester Cathedral Priory with a fascinating rolling programme of displays from the Cathedral archives. The Mezzanine also provides access to the remarkable 17th-century Morley Library and its outstanding collection of books, which have remained in their current location for over 400 years.

JULIA TITUS presents MA BESSIE

Bessie Smith (Julia Titus) and her blues troupe (drummer Sam Kelly with Paul Jobson on keyboards, Tony Qunta on guitar and Richard Sadler on upright bass, Clare Hirst on sax/clarinet and Kevin Davy on trumpet) perform to a narrated show, featuring music from the era and showcasing many (approximately 22) of Bessie's songs. The production chronicles her life from a one-room shack in Blue Goose Hollow, through to becoming the highest-paid black entertainer of that time, to the tragic accident on Route 61 in September 1937 which resulted in her untimely death aged 43 years.

The run of shows started on 22nd September 2017 and has gained momentum throughout 2018. We are particularly focussing on, but not restricted to, Black History Month 2018 and there are plans for tours in Europe and The States. Confirmed showdates during the rest of the year include Wilde Theatre, South Hill Arts Centre in Bracknell, Uckfield Festival 2018, Bridgwater Arts, The Acorn in Penzance, Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead, a rebooking at The Hideaway in Streatham, Winchester Discover Centre, Newquay Lane Theatre, Marlow Jazz Club and many more throughout 2019.

Ivan Dutton: A life of motoring passion and achievement

Beaulieu
From: 19 Oct '19 07:30pm -
To: 19 Oct '19 11:30pm

Join us for an evening lecture on Saturday 19th October to discover the remarkable life and career of Ivan Dutton.

Ivan Dutton's career in the motor trade began when, upon finishing his apprenticeship in pattern making, he joined the workshop of the Chequered Flag, quickly becoming foreman. During 1963 he started his own business and competed in his first motor race in a Mk1 Jaguar. This interest in motorsport led to Ivan becoming the British Production Saloon Car Champion in 1973, but the oil crisis of the late seventies ended his professional racing career. Enthusiasm for the Bugatti marque had been nurtured by his father, whose stories of Brooklands between the wars led to the formation of the Bugatti restoration company in 1979. Ivan's career in racing Bugatti's began in 1983 in a Type 51, followed by years of racing a succession of Type 35B models. With the arrival of the new millennium and Ivan's sixtieth birthday, he felt it was time to retire and pass the reins of the business, Ivan Dutton Ltd, to his son, Timothy. However, Ivan does not seem to have slowed down, he continues to enjoy a fine collection of cars and shows no signs of losing the passion!

The evening will commence at 7:30 pm in the Lecture Theatre of the National Motor Museum’s Collections Centre and finish at around 10.00 pm. A pay bar will be available in the Collections Centre for the purchase of beers, wines and soft drinks.

Please note The National Motor Museum will not be open at this event.

For further information and to purchase tickets please contact Theresa Browning on 01590 614792 or email theresa.browning@beaulieu.co.uk. Tickets will now be sent electronically where possible, so please provide an email address in any correspondence. If tickets are required by post, please provide an SAE.

Five Tributes in One Evening – The greatest Supergroup of all time!

ROY ORBISON * GEORGE HARRISON * TOM PETTY * JEFF LYNNE * BOB DYLAN

Currently on a nationwide tour, hit production “The Big O & The Wilburys Tribute Show” have wowed audiences with their uncanny vocal and musical resemblances to the original band members. And with the Traveling Wilburys never actually going on tour – perhaps partly due to the untimely death of Roy Orbison in 1988 – this is a wonderful chance to enjoy a live Wilburys experience.

A real up-tempo, feel good show, audiences are treated to a range of hits, not just from the Wilburys (Handle with Care, End of the Line, Tweeter and the Monkey Man and others), but also from the back catalogue of the famous five themselves – from Dylan’s Blowing in the Wind and Mighty Quinn, to Tom Petty’s always rousing Won’t Back Down. Other highlights include George Harrison’s Here Comes the Sun and Roll Over Beethoven by Jeff Lynne.

October Fort talk: How to kill a vampire

Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
From: 23 Oct '19 07:30pm -
To: 23 Oct '19 09:00pm

The Royal Armouries museum at Fort Nelson will host the latest in a series of Fort Talks on Wednesday 23 October with guest speaker, the Royal Armouries Curator of Firearms Jonathan Ferguson.

Jonathan has a particular interest in the folklore and mythology of arms and armour as well as popular culture and the supernatural.

Today vampires are largely fodder for movies, books and Halloween costumes. They drink human blood, have fangs and are warded off by garlic or a stake through the heart. But for many centuries anecdotal records describe actual eye witness accounts of vampires terrorising villages.

During the talk Jonathan Ferguson will explain the history of vampire slaying in both folklore and fiction, from the iconic wooden stake to garlic. He will also share his research into the mysterious 'vampire killing kits' and how they fit into this larger tradition of supernatural self-defence. During the evening visitors will have the opportunity to see up close a Vampire Slaying Kit, usually on display in the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds.

Date: Wednesday 23 October 2019 Time: 7:30 pm – 9 pm Tickets: £5 per person which includes refreshments

Tickets are available in advance from the Royal Armouries website: royalarmouries.org/event/fort-talks or from the Fort Nelson Visitor Centre.

The Royal Armouries museum was opened in 1984, and today is one of the largest artillery museums in the UK. Set within 19 acres, there is so much to see and explore, including the ramparts, parade, tunnels, galleries and Café 1871. The Fort is open from 10 am – 5 pm daily (April – October) and 10 am – 4 pm (November – March). Admission is free, parking £3.

BEN HOLDER JAZZ QUARTET

Ben Holder is one of the most gifted and exciting young jazz violinists in the UK. Taught classically from the age of six, he studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire. During his classical studies, Ben began listening to Jazz - classic masters such as Benny Goodman and Oscar Peterson and of course the great jazz violinists including Grappelli, Joe Venuti and the awe inspiring Stuff Smith.

Alongside his early studies and later at college he embarked on a detailed analysis of these musicians techniques and the way in which they merged this most classical of instruments into the jazz idiom.

Ben's innate sense of swing rhythm (something which often eludes classical players) stems from those early listening sessions - and his various awards bear testimony to his abilities. A first call jazz violinist for many of the North's top bands and studios.

THE REVOLVERS

Forming in the summer of 2006, The Revolvers consist of four Young guys with an unrivalled, burning passion for the greatest musical decade of all time..... We are of course referring to the 1960s.

Having played over 1500 concerts, worldwide "The Revolvers" continue to wow audiences with not only their incredible musical talents but also with their unmatched authenticity.

From the meticulously sourced costumes that they wear to the vintage musical instruments that they use, this really is a show not to be missed.
Think back to an era when Rubber Soul and Revolver by The Beatles were high in the charts the Mini was the car to have – as was the skirt – and great music filled with guitars and harmonies could be heard from most radios.

Now come back to the present day – The Mini car has just celebrated its 50th birthday and is still going strong; The Beatles’ albums have just been re-released and The Revolvers are bringing the great music of the 60’s back to life recreating the youthful look and the hits from your favourite 60's artists

Suited and booted, The Revolvers are an energetic tribute to the lost decade of the 60's. The Revolvers cover songs from artists such as Small Faces,The Kinks, The Beatles, The Who, Spencer Davis Group, The Rolling Stones and many more....

The Revolvers have performed at famous venues such as The Cavern, Liverpool, Hampton Court, London and have also toured parts of America and Europe. The Revolvers were also recently handpicked to perform at the Premiere after party for the worldwide Premiere of 'MADE IN DAGENHAM' in London's West-End!

Shalamar are one of the most successful soul groups of all time, selling 25 million albums worldwide. Formed in 1976, the band enjoyed their first hit single the following year with the Motown inspired medley 'Uptown Festival'.

The 'underground soul club' hits continued with 'Take That To The Bank' in 1978, followed by 'Right In The Socket' and the infectious ‘The Second Time Around’, which dominated the airwaves through Autumn 1979.

In 1982, the whole world fell under the spell of Shalamar with the release of the ‘Friends’ album (which sold over one million copies in the UK) and in particular, 'A Night to Remember' – although it was not perhaps the song but the image of Jeffrey Daniel performing the 'Moonwalk' live on British Television for the first time on Top of The Pops that stopped a nation in their tracks.

In 1982, the world fell under the spell of Shalamar with the release of the 'Friends' album, which sold over one million copies in the UK alone. Fast forward 35+ years and the band - with original members Jeffrey Daniel and Howard Hewitt alongside Carolyn Griffey (daughter of Solar Records' Dick Griffey) - continues to thrill audiences all over the world with their stage show. "A Shalamar concert is a giant party" says Jeffrey Daniel, "From the moment we step on stage to the moment we finish the audience becomes part of the show - they’re up on their feet dancing and singing along".

Now Shalamar bring their Greatest Hits 2019 tour back to The Concorde – without doubt, the combination of the best 80s Disco / Soul band is something you won’t want to miss!

New Forest Knowledge Conference

The New Forest National Park
From: 01 Nov '19 09:30am -
To: 01 Nov '19 04:30pm
Today's New Forest is a largely woodland and heathland environment, yet integral to its special qualities and unique sense of place are its many buildings and structures. Built environments are both shaped by and shape the people who inhabit them, work in them, admire them and ignore them. They are at the heart of some of the current opportunities and challenges we face in creating a sustainable future for the New Forest. Our focus will be on how buildings and structures have shaped and themselves have been shaped by the Forest. Speakers include independent researchers and representatives from the University of Winchester, New Forest District Council and New Forest National Park Authority. Myths of the macabre

Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
From: 01 Nov '19 05:30pm -
To: 01 Nov '19 10:00pm

As darkness gathers over Portsmouth this November, the Royal Armouries museum Fort Nelson will be opening its doors for a very special late night opening, offering a rare opportunity for visitors to explore the fort after hours as part of the highly popular national Museums at Night festival.

Behind the doors of Fort Nelson, Miss Cassandra Worthy and her sinister band of Victorian storytellers await with stories of the extraordinary and tales of terror. Whatever you do, don’t say her name and don’t look back in to the shadows to see who, or what, might be lurking… not for the faint hearted!

Those brave enough to join us on the night will be able to experience Fort Nelson when the lights go down and hear the creaks and groans made by the Victorian fort once darkness falls. Visitors will see for themselves how the museum’s character changes dramatically after dark. Perhaps the fort’s own ghosts will join the party?

This special event will take place in the Victorian Redan, an area of the fort not normally open to the general public.

This is an unmissable evening of extraordinary tales in the very unique and atmospheric setting of Fort Nelson. Don’t forget your torch, it will be dark!

Shows: 6.30pm and 8.15pm, there will be a pay bar.

Tickets: £16 per person, suitable for ages 14+

Tickets are available in advance from the Royal Armouries website, subject to availability. https://royalarmouries.org/event/myths-of-the-macabre/

GENESIS LEGACY
"We can see the fire’s still alight….Genesis Legacy is a loving tribute to the music of Genesis, Mike and the Mechanics, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and, of course, Phil Collins.

Hear the biggest hits from these pillars of the British music industry such as Invisible Touch, Over my Shoulder, Solisbury Hill, In the Air tonight and many many more. They’ll be reaching in to grab right hold of your heart!”

Genesis Legacy is a tribute band unlike any other. Genesis is a super group that featured 4 staples of British Rock, Pop and Progressive Rock that set the careers for Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett. Steve and Peter went on to launch successful Solo careers, but neither were as stratospheric as Phil Collins himself - giving us some of the best loved pop music ever produced. Mike Rutherford's side project, Mike and the Mechanics, was formed with Paul Carrack and Paul Young (not that one!) and gave us such hits as "In the Living Years" and "Over my shoulder".

Genesis Legacy brings the biggest songs from those 5 connected super-acts into an explosive shows performed by super-fans of these artists with an attention to detail and affection for the music that's rarely found in a tribute band today.

MADISON HEIGHTS
Madison Heights Soul Band is a ten-piece, authentic soul band, who deliver an energetic and exciting performance of classic songs by the legends of soul and Motown. We are based in Hampshire in the United Kingdom.
An all live band with a big sound, who consistently deliver memorable and professional performances for wedding receptions, corporate functions, private parties & many more occasions.
Madison Heights was formed in 2000 in by a group of talented musicians based in Hampshire who love to get people up on the dance floor having a good time and a great night out! We have seen too many wedding bands going through the motions or taking themselves too seriously. We arrive on the stage and from right from the very first track, all the way until the very last, we put 100% energy and passion into every single one of our live performances.
Inspired by the stage shows of the classic suited and booted Motown showbands, we deliver sharp and slick performances of classic songs by the legends of soul, including Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner.

The Concorde Club
From: 08 Nov '19 08:00pm -
To: 08 Nov '19 11:00pm

Music starts 8pm
BACK TO 60s
The well established 'Back To The Sixties' is back for another great night and features the cream of classic 60s bands, singers and DJs from the best ever decade. Original artistes who performed around the Southampton area and all over the country, provide some great sounds with over four hours of live music plus fills from the local 'vintage' DJs.
This 'mini festival' has become well established over the last few years and witnessed some amazing performances from local Southampton musicians, many of them performing from the late Fifties and early Sixties. Many of the guest artistes have flown in from all corners of the world and linked in with visiting family, friends and hooking up with old pals after several years away as well as making some great music. The Concorde audiences cover a wide age group but many of the 'Baby Boomers' hit the dance floor from the first note of the evening and keep it packed throughout the night- some 4/5 hours of classic 60s hits, laughs, surprises and much more. The door proceeds go to the official Concorde Charity Fund that helps local childrens' charities, so we are hoping for another high turnout for this November show.

BELGIAN QUO
The story of the Belgian Quo Band started in the summer of 2004 after my father and I went to see a Status Quo concert at the “Schwungfestival” in Roeselare. My father, who has been a fan of Status Quo for many years now, was inspired by their music to start his own band.
I had found his old instruments hidden somewhere in the attic. One day, I installed them all and told him that I wanted to learn how to play Status Quo’s tracks. For a seventeen year old, who hadn’t played before and could not read music it was quite a bold statement that raised quite a few eyebrows. Nevertheless, I did not want to give in. With steady determination and day after day, I practiced the musical parts, which are not as easy as many may think, until I mastered them. It’s a commons misconception that the structure of the Quo’s tracks is simple. After weeks of practice, I had made much progress on my ‘guitar play’ and in the summer of 2004, I was ready to step into the spotlights. My father, having seen my determination and motivation, was keen to start playing again as well and we decided to form a tribute band.

Via Internet, we looked for a drummer and bass player to add to the band. For this kind of music it is of paramount importance to have a tight rhythm section. We soon realized that it would not be as easy as we had thought and that it would take several weeks, if not months, to form a band. In the meantime, we continued practicing every day all summer. There was still a lot to be improved. Even though we mastered the musical parts rather quickly it was difficult to combine and align the different sounds. But still, we were happy to be making steady progress. We were pleased with the level that we had achieved after the intensive rehearsals throughout the summer.
In October, out of the blue, we met Lieven, another Status Quo addict who happened to be a bass player. He introduced us to Johan, our soon-to-be drummer. We started rehearsals in December and did our first try-outs in Hertsberge and Maarkedal in 2008.
In 2009 we were finally up to speed thanks to birthday concerts, an “apéro” concert and we even appeared on AVS, a regional TV channel (see “Press” for more information).
2010 started with our first small gig. Unfortunately, after that, there were no more concerts on our schedule. It seemed that playing and rehearsing intensively with the same people for three years was starting to take its toll. As a result, we no longer had the same drive, motivation and energy as when we first started. My father and I had made our ambitions and aspirations clear from the start – it was our dream to play with the Belgian Quo Band at a huge event one day.
We soon found out that the members of the band did not all share those dreams which meant that it was difficult to stick together. Even though we were playing with two superb musicians, we realized that it would be difficult to achieve our goals, mostly due to the situation in the band at that time. After a long and difficult discussion, we came to the conclusion that it was better for the band to let go of the rhythm section.
By the end of the summer, the band was complete again and we were back on track with some performances at the end of that year. And yet… we felt that we did not have a match with our new bass player. Luckily, at the beginning of 2011, we received great news: we were thrilled that Lieven, who was pleased with the band’s new approach and style, decided to return.

We invested in new amplifiers, a new wardrobe and guitars in order to be more in line with the real Quo. In 2011, we had set new common goals. The new line-up with Erwin, Frank, Lieven and Leander started to pay off: we played at a broad variety of events and launched our first DVD (“BQB Live”) in November of that year. On top of all that, we opened the Tribute Festival at the “Brielpoort” in Deinze. We were hoping for an excellent start in 2012 as well – we even worked on an international breakthrough and were proud to add 3 concerts in the Netherlands to our tour schedule.

Unfortunately, Leander announced in January that he had to leave the band due to personal reasons, leaving us without a drummer once again.

We were lucky that Lieven immediately introduced us to one of his old palls, Wesley. After a few rehearsals, Wesley was able to convince us of his added value – we were on the road again! We started a new series of intensive rehearsals to further develop the band’s quality. This started to pay off by spring: the band’s team spirit and sound was better than ever. We were prepared for an exciting and busy second half of the year starting in Bellem on 11 August.
And then something happened that no one saw coming. On 29 August, my father was rushed to University Hospital at Antwerp with a ruptured aorta. We had no other option than to cancel all upcoming shows. It gives me great pleasure to say that my father is recovering well and that we started practicing again in January. This line-up is the best we’ve ever had and I’m not coy about our ambitions. 2013 will mark the beginning of a new sound and increased visibility thanks to live sessions at radio stations across Flanders.

Remembering and honouring the Fallen at Fort Nelson

Royal Armouries Fort Nelson
From: 10 Nov '19 10:30am -
To: 10 Nov '19 11:30am

A special firing of a Second World War piece of artillery on Remembrance Sunday, 10 November, at Royal Armouries Fort Nelson museum, will form part of the commemorations to those killed in two world wars and all conflicts since.

Museum visitors will be able to join the nation in remembering the servicemen and women who laid down their lives. Re-enactors in First World War uniform will fire ten rounds using Short Magazine Lee-Enfield rifles to mark the beginning of the 2 minutes’ silence at 11 am, and a Second World War piece of artillery will be fired by re-enactors in Second World War uniform to signal the end of the silence. The commemoration will end with a reading.

Date: Sunday 10 November

Time: 10:45 am – 11:15 am

Fort Nelson is a remarkable Victorian fortification (one of the famous Palmerston Follies), which was built between 1860 and 1870 to deter an enemy attack on Portsmouth from inland, although it never saw action against the French. Portsmouth played a critical role as an embarkation point during the First World War for the millions of soldiers deployed to Europe. Soldiers stationed in Portsmouth during this period used Fort Nelson as a barrack and training centre. The fort was also used as an anti-aircraft ammunition depot and played a crucial part in supporting the defence of the Solent during 1940 and 1941.

The Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson is home to an extensive collection of First World War artillery, including the British 18-inch Railway Howitzer in the Artillery Hall. The museum is open daily 10 am – 5 pm (April – October) and 10 am – 4 pm (November – March). Museum admission is free and parking is £3.

The John Maddocks Jazzmen Hail from Dorset and Hampshire, they reached their 40th birthday in 2011.
John had previously enjoyed success with The Black Bottom Stompers a band which he formed whilst in London and which still exists today.
The Jazzmen have their own sound brought about mainly by the unique style of John’s clarinet playing. John was originally inspired by the fine clarinettist Johnny Dodds, but John is his own man and encompasses influences from all over the traditional jazz spectrum. Personnel changes have been few over the years but one or two in the band can still claim to have been at least twenty five years younger when they first joined. The Band is well known for its drive and cohesiveness and the inclusion of some seldom heard tunes in the repertoire.

Over the years, Peter White has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists on the contemporary jazz landscape. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy, he combines elements of jazz, pop and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience.
Born in 1954 in Luton, a small town north of London, White and his family moved to nearby Letchworth shortly after he was born. As a child, he learned to play several musical instruments, including the clarinet, trombone, violin and piano. And of course, like so many youngsters growing up during the heyday of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, he gravitated to the guitar.
He learned his first chords on an acoustic guitar, then bought his first electric guitar in his early teens and studied the recordings of the reigning guitar gods of the day – Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. But his musical aspirations ultimately veered back in an acoustic direction following an accident that doomed his beloved electric guitar. The axe was destroyed in a fire, one that White’s younger brother Danny – an aspiring pianist – accidentally started.
“The funny thing is that Danny didn’t actually admit to setting that fire for at least twenty-five years,” says White. “I had been kind of obsessed with the electric guitar at that point in my life, so that episode kind of forced me to go back to playing the acoustic. In retrospect, that’s a good thing.”
Indeed, White’s interests after the accident shifted more toward the music of acoustic artists like Crosby, Stills and Nash, James Taylor, and Joni Mitchell. Plugged or unplugged, he had decided by his late teens that music was his calling, and his first professional gig was at a holiday resort in England when he was 19 years old.
Barely a year later, he was invited to join Al Stewart’s band as a keyboardist for a tour of England, Scotland, and the U.S. in 1975. In addition to opening for artists like Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel and Queen, White worked with Stewart in the studio in the making of Year of the Cat, which became a huge hit for Stewart in 1976. The tour and the album marked the beginning of a twenty-year association with Stewart. In that time, the two musicians co-wrote numerous songs, including Stewart’s 1978 hit, “Time Passages.”
By the beginning of the ‘80s, White and Stewart had relocated to Los Angeles, formed a band called Shot in the Dark, and established a music publishing company called Lobster Music. Around the same time, Danny White – he of the burning guitar incident several years earlier – formed a group called Matt Bianco, which included a talented Polish singer named Basia Trzetrzelewska. Danny White and Basia splintered off to launch the singer’s solo career with the 1987 debut album, Time and Tide, which featured Peter White on guitar.
After fifteen years as a backup musician and a session player, White launched his solo recording career with the 1990 release of Reveillez-Vous (French for “Wake up,” a title chosen by White in honor of his French mother). The album included several unused songs that White had written for Stewart, and it became a favorite among contemporary jazz radio stations.
He followed with three records on the Sindrome label – Excusez-Moi (1991), Promenade (1993) and Reflections (1994) – before signing with Columbia for the 1996 release of Caravan of Dreams. He maintained an ambitious release schedule through the ‘90s and beyond, but also found time to appear on recordings by many of his friends, including Dave Koz, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Jeff Golub, Lee Ritenour, Kirk Whalum, Boney James and many others.
On the road, he has participated in numerous “Guitars and Saxes” tours with the aforementioned players, and has established an annual “Peter White Christmas Tour” – the latter enterprise fueled by the success of his two highly regarded holiday albums, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007).
Good Day, released in 2009 on Peak Records, a division of Concord Music Group, was White’s first collection of original songs in several years. “I just started going through my backlog of material – songs that I’d never finished, some going as far back as ten or fifteen years – and I discovered that I had a lot of gems that I really wanted to show to the world,” he says. “I wanted to record them in my own time and in my own way, without any outside influence or interference.”
A sense of adventure is at the heart of White’s thirteenth solo recording, Here We Go, set for release on March 13, 2012, on Heads Up International, a division of Concord Music Group. The 11-song set, co-produced by White and DC (George Benson, Larry Carlton, Bob James, Patty Austin), features several high-profile guest musicians, including saxophonists David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum, and pianist Philippe Saisse, and includes a range of original material written in the recent and distant past. “I wanted variety,” says White. “I wanted songs that moved me, in the hopes that they’ll move the listener as well. I’m on a journey, and I want to bring with me anyone who’s willing to follow.”
In a career that spans nearly four decades, over a dozen solo recordings and countless performances, White insists that it’s the faces in the crowd and the fans that keep the experience fresh. “I’ll play a live show, and someone will come to me afterward and say, ‘Oh, I loved this CD,’ or ‘This song helped me through a bad time,’” he explains. “Or I get emails from people saying, ‘Oh, I love the way you covered one of my favorite songs on your record back in 1994.’ The idea that someone can write me an email and tell me about something I did on a record that was released fifteen years ago – you can’t buy that. That’s priceless. That’s what keeps me going – the idea that people out there really care about what I do, the idea that I’ve made a difference for someone.”

KENNY THOMAS and his band
Kenny was born in Islington, North London. In the early eighties the heart of the neighbourhood was beating with the sounds of Soul, Reggae, Lovers Rock and Jazz Funk. He sang in the choir at the local church to the delight of his mother and had a busy career as an amateur boxer to the delight of his father!
His dad was a well-known professional boxer in his day and had an amature boxing gym in Alexandra Palace, North London, where he trained boxers. One day the hand of fate once again rested on Kenny’s shoulder. A music manager, who was a keen boxer himself, got talking to his dad at a boxing event when those immortal words were uttered… “My son can sing, you should hear his stuff.” He did, and he was very impressed with Kenny’s voice.
Over the last few years Kenny has had the privilege of touring and sharing the stage with artistes such as Bobby Womack, Lisa Stansfield, Shalamar, Patrice Rushen, Tavares, Alexander O’Neal, Beverley Knight and Level 42. His fan base here in the UK and around the world has grown with him and this loyal following has ensured that the demand to see him perform live has never waned.
Off stage Kenny’s been busy too and with his ever enquiring mind he became interested in the advantages of complementary medicine. Not one to do anything by halves, he graduated from a private academy in 2010 with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is now a qualified Practitioner.
Kenny’s new duo project with Jazz Pianist and Producer Wayne Brown known as “The Thomas Brown Affair” sees him sticking to his soul roots but it also sees him pushing the boundaries, and taking a step into the unknown – a place, unsurprisingly Mr. Thomas is very comfortable in.

GONE BUSH

Beaulieu
From: 16 Nov '19 07:30pm -
To: 16 Nov '19 11:00pm
Something of a latecomer to aviation Paul Catanach first threatened airspace (and everything beneath it) at the age of 30 with a Private Pilot’s Licence in the UK. Soon afterward he combined emigration to Australia with a career change and gained a Commercial Pilot’s Licence at Coolangatta in Queensland where he also snagged his first job as an instructor. After a couple of years teaching flying and theory subjects to trainee private and commercial pilots he combined shameless cronyism with blackmail and won a job based in Darwin in the Northern Territory. Bashing around the bush in a series of clapped-out aircraft Paul carried freight both night and day the length and breadth of the GAFA experiencing the delights and perils of the Northern Territory’s two seasons, the dry and the wet. Despite the best efforts of passengers, live freight, other pilots and wildlife he survived several years before returning to the UK where he is now a training captain operating privately owned biz-jets to at least two corners of the Earth.
The evening will commence at 7:30 pm in the Lecture Theatre of the National Motor Museum’s Collections Centre and finish at around 10:00 pm. A pay bar will be available in the Collections Centre for the purchase of beers, wines and soft drinks.
Please note the National Motor Museum will not be open at this event.

ALVIN
About Alvin:
Although it sounded like a zoo burning down, the very first time that I sang "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" and "Teddy Bear" at California Cliffs Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth, I knew I wanted to go into show business and for Christmas 1972 , my parents bought me my first guitar.
I formed my first band "Capacity Crowd" in 1974. Due to musical indifferencies, Capacity Crowd split in 1981, with the band wanting to take a more musical route and me, well, I wanted to take more of a cabaret step forward, hence later that year the formation of "The Itsy Bitsy Band", a comedy show band, pictured here in 1985.
For 9 years, the "The Itsy Bitsy Band" toured all over the world, performing in hotels, holiday centres and also to HM Forces. As time went by, with the continual demand and requests for my "Elvis" sector of the show, it became apparent that this would be my next step forward, so in 1990... "Alvin, the ultimate Elvis tribute" was born.
“Alvin - the ultimate Elvis tribute" is great fun to do and having been an avid Elvis fan since the age of 12, it is a great honour for me to get to play my hero at least 3 or 4 times a week.

BOG ROLLING STONES
Mick Slacker & Co’s tounge in cheek tribute act just gets better and better.
The Bog Rolling Stones formed a while back with one aim in mind: to inject a little fun and tongue-in-cheek humour into the all too serious world of tribute bands. Realising that it is impossible to take ones self seriously whilst prancing about on stage in a wig and stripy trousers, the bands attitude revolves around high energy, no holds barred entertainment.

Band members slip in and out of character at opportune moments and wigs have been known to fly across the room. Then, just when you think it’s simply theatre, Keefs ice pick guitar strikes a nerve, the rhythm section plugs in and the music reaches up, grabs Mick by the ankle and pulls him under!

During the past 11 years the band has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic sounding tribute acts around, tackling the more challenging songs with great enthusiasm.

The Bog Rolling Stones are now one of the most popular, sought after live bands in the area. Of course, it’s only Rock n Roll but a lot of people seem to like it, like it, yes they do!!! Mick Slacker & Co's hilarious tribute act just gets better and better. Satisfaction's always guaranteed when these long haired boys play your town!

Forever Queen are a four piece Queen tribute band. The band have been going for 10 years and have played some of the best venues in the UK and abroad. Queen has been one of THE most successful rock bands of all time and, as musicians, it is an honour to be able to recreate their music and image in our show. Playing Queen isn’t about singing their songs, its about the little things as well which we try to show through the music, props, and costumes. We hope that our attention to detail highlights the lengths we go to in order to provide a true experience of Queen.
