If you want to discover something beautiful, you need time. With our extended layovers in the ports, you can experience your destination in a particularly intense and diverse way. In many cases, your ship will also stay in a location overnight, which means you get to savour the local evening atmosphere when the other visitors have left.

All our excursions are led by local tour guides, in English & German language. This gives you a first-hand insight into the culture and nature of your travel destination. On board of VASCO DA GAMA, we have a range of public facilities for your wellbeing. This includes a fitness area with various cardio equipment as well as our wellness area with steam bath and sauna. The outdoor sports area includes a hard paddle tennis court and a jogging track plus table tennis, shuffleboard and darts. VASCO DA GAMA also has an outdoor pool with two whirlpools and a covered indoor pool. All these facilities are available for our guests to use for free. The beauty area provides massage and cosmetic treatment at an additional cost. You can find the opening times and price lists for these services in your cabin. In the various shops we have on board, you will find a range of clothing, jewellery, cosmetics and a selection of items for daily use. Please note that the shops are only permitted to open outside the 12-mile zone from shore due to customs regulations. Varying shows and entertainment programmes are performed in our “Hollywood” theatre.

As part of our extensive renovation, we converted from crude oil to marine gas ad gave the engines a general overhaul. Vasco Ga Gama now burns low-sulphur MGO (marine gas oil), which results in significantly less dust and soot than the cruise oil used by most ocean-going vessels. Studies show that MGO produces 70-85 percent less sulphur oxide than cruise oil.

On board there is a selective catalytic reduction technology system (SCR) built in which uses urea to neutralise nitrogen oxides. All five machines are fitted with SCR catalysers, which reduce nitrogen oxides on Vasco Da Gama by up to 80 percent. Vasco da Gama thus fulfils the the so-called TIER III level of emission standards of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), which, as a special organisation of the United Nations as part of MARPOL Convention, has set itself the goal of reducing pollution from ships. Our exhaust gas treatment clearly exceeds the current environmental protection requirements in sensitive areas, such as the North Sea and Baltic Sea, and already far exceeds the requirements that will be mandatory for sailing through the Norwegian Coastal landscape from 2025.

A new sewage system is also due to be fitted on Vasco da Gama. The organic wastewater treatment offers excellent waste water quality, reduces suspended particles to zero and meets the latest international and local requirements for use without chemicals.

For the underwater paint used on Vasco da Gama, we selected a special environmentally friendly, durable and robust coating which does not release toxins into the sea. In addition, the coating also prevents growth and debris on the underside of the ship, which can cause increased fuel consumption due to water resistance. Its innovative paint saves around six percent of fuel.

Perhaps you would like to start the evening with an appetising aperitif such as a good port wine or the modern variation, a port tonic? Or do you want to end the evening somewhere cosy? Enjoy cocktail classics and signature creations with views of the evening landscape, sunset, or starlit sky. In name “Dome” says it all: this fully glazed room is the ideal place for your sundowner or nightcap. But the other bars, cafés and lounges also have fine wines and a fantastic range of assorted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Of course, the friendly service team will also be delighted to prepare a drinks to your personal taste.

Enjoy all the benefits of the Classic Drinks Package which is included in your cruise fare. Alternatively, upgrade to the Premium Drinks Package for just £20 per person per night and enjoy the limitless variety of premium brands.

Beverage packages can only be booked for the entire duration of the cruise and for all people sharing the cabin. They cannot be transferred to other travellers. Guests under 18 years of age will be allocated the non-alcoholic beverage package which includes juices, soft drinks, natural mineral water, hot chocolate and tea.

Please note the above mentioned brands are listed as an example and cannot be guaranteed.

As the fresh water on board ships is always stored in tanks, we recommend not drinking the tap water and that you use the mineral water in your cabin and, if necessary, get mineral water from the bar, in the restaurant or at the coffee point instead. The tap water is perfectly suitable for brushing teeth.

A doctor is available on-board VASCO DA GAMA to provide first-aid assistance in the event of accidents and emergencies. Billing for the doctors’ services and if, applicable, medication that has been administered, is carried out on board.

Costs will very much depend on the service. Our prices are displayed on board, however, please be aware these can be quite expensive. If medical services are sort after from ashore, then costs will be subject to the local medical provider.

VASCO DA GAMA and WORLD VOYAGER are equipped with a satellite reception system and offers WIFI internet access. The cost of this has been included in your cruise fare and is applicable (upto 250MB) to one registered device

On VASCO DA GAMA, children under 16 may cruise for free or receive a discount when accompanied by adults. 

Please note flights and other costs will still apply. 

Smoking is only permitted in designated areas on the outside decks. All interior areas such as restaurants, lounges, cabins, cabin balconies, corridors are non-smoking areas. This also applies to the use of all types of e-cigarettes.

We recommend wearing smart casual clothing for the evening and smarter attire for the Gala Dinner. More relaxed attire can be worn during the day for sightseeing and general relaxation around the ship. It is recommended to wear non-slip shoes on the outside decks.

Our pricing includes full board on our ocean ships including:

In addition to the beautiful scenery, you will experience along the river, which can be enjoyed from the Sun Deck, we focus on our excursions programme. Included in your price are a range of included excursions which are highlighted on the individual itineraries. In addition, there are a variety of optional shore excursions which you can add to your sightseeing programme for an additional charge. These can be booked on board.

Our experienced Cruise Director is on hand to support you during your voyage. Guests can also enjoy evenings in the lounge with a cocktail and board games or a game of bingo. There is also a resident musician on-board.

Suitable catering options will usually always be provided for you. If you have any specific dietary requirements or special meals, please notify us at the time of booking to ensure that we can cater for you.

The ships are comfortable as possible, but there will of course be staircases, as well as narrow doors and corridors. Even boarding or disembarking from the ship is usually via narrow gangways, which are not always at ground level and, depending on the tide, can also be very steep. If you have limited mobility, an ocean cruise on our ship may not be recommended. In some cases, severe weather conditions may prevent tenders from operating or shore leave may be refused for safety reasons. This decision of the captain is final. Our crew is of course on hand to help, however, please bear in mind that our onboard employees are not trained caregivers and are not permitted to carry out any nursing activities.

For safety reasons and to review requirements, please let us know if you have any specific needs, limited mobility or other physical limitations prior to making your booking. Should you have any limitations that prevent you from taking part in the sea rescue exercise, please also let us know before departure. If you require specialised help, you must travel with a companion. Guests who are wheelchair-dependent must bring their own collapsible wheelchair with them.

Please note that the number of guests per cruise who are wheelchair-dependent is limited for safety reasons and embarkation may be refused without prior notification.
