Salisbury Cathedral is a truly remarkable building, a testimony to the faith and practical skills of the medieval craftsmen who built it but it is much more than a historical monument. It is a living church and a place of prayer. As the Cathedral Church of the Salisbury diocese it is Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is also a centre of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

For over 750 years pilgrims have come to Salisbury to seek inspiration in the peace of the building and surrounding Cathedral Close. Whether you come to worship, marvel at or climb up to Britain's tallest spire, to be awed by the beauty and scale of the cathedral interior or to study the original Magna Carta in our Chapter House, there is a wide range of beautiful and historic features to take in.

Take a guided tour of England's finest Cathedral. Set within 8 acres of lawn, visitors can climb up to the country's tallest spire or discover the best preserved original Magna Carta.

Salisbury is unique amongst medieval English cathedrals having been built in just 38 years (1220 - 1258) in a single architectural style, early English Gothic. The tower and spire (Britain's tallest) were added around 50 years later.

The building itself is much more than a historical monument. It is a living church and a place of prayer. As the Cathedral Church of the Salisbury diocese it is Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is also a centre of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

William the Conqueror set aside the Forest for hunting more than 900 years ago as his 'Nova Forestra' or 'New Forest' and centuries of grazing by deer, ponies and cattle have shaped the landscape.

William would probably still recognise much of the Forest as the same place he hunted wild deer and boar. Today it is a wonderful area to explore by walking, cycling and on horseback. Enjoy your visit and please help to keep the New Forest National Park a special place.

This exciting family destination is the South of England’s hands-on, interactive science and technology centre with the largest standalone planetarium in the UK. It is an all-weather visitor attraction with a welcoming family feel, situated approximately three miles from Winchester City Centre.

Hands-on Exhibition

The Science Centre is home to Explorer:Space, an immersive space zone where your family can take an epic journey through the Solar System and learn about all things space, from meteorites to human space flight. At weekends and during holidays you can visit the Invention Studio, a place where you can create, construct and be challenged with the help of our friendly Inspirers.

There are lots of interactive exhibits to explore, aiming to spark curiosity in all the family and bring the worlds of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) to life. Learn how to bend light, create your own vortex and test your speed and balance in our Science of Sport zone. You can even set off on a journey through the Colon Café and learn all about your gut and how what we put into our bodies affects what comes out!

The Science Centre runs a brilliant programme of weekend and school holiday events, that could include anything from live science shows to interactive sessions to activities and challenges, all included in General Admission (unless otherwise stated). All events are listed on the website.

Planetarium

The planetarium offers an unforgettable experience. The 360° cinema screen completely surrounds the audience, placing everyone right in the action. There are two different show formats on offer – fulldome pre-recorded films and presenter-led live shows. The Centre also offers three different show environments to ensure that everyone can enjoy the planetarium – chatterbox shows, quiet shows and autism-friendly shows.

The Hub Cafe & Science Shop

You’ll find an excellent choice of hot and cold drinks, lunch options and snacks at the Hub Café. There is indoor and outdoor seating for those purchasing refreshments as well as a picnic area if you prefer to bring your own lunch. The Science Shop offers a variety of unusual STEM gifts, from pocket-money mementos to quality books and experiments to try at home.
