About The Wathen Bartlett

A true gem of the forest

THE WATHEN BARTLETT

A prominent building visible from The Cross in the centre of Burley, gifted to the working men of Burley on a 999 year lease on 26 March 1945 by Mrs Vanda Wathen-Bartlett.

The original building is believed to date back to around 1897 and we understand that alcohol has been served since 1904, when temporary stewards Frank and Ellen Marchant had their stay there extended due to their house burning down. The current office was the former bicycle and coal shed and a green galvanised lean-to was the entrance accessed by steps. An extension was added in the 1970's, which is now the dining / function room, improvements made to the car park and a new entrance created.

The Wathen-Bartlett is still a club and members pay a joining fee or their renewal subscription each year in order to take advantage of discounts on drinks and food, however our licence also allows members of the public / non-members to come in and everyone is welcome, including our four-legged friends!

We have available a good selection of ales / bitters including our very own Wathen-Bartlett Best Bitter, ciders and lagers (draught and bottles); wines, spirits and soft drinks along with coffee and tea and a great selection of chocolate, crisps and snacks. There are 2 full size snooker tables (hourly charge applies for lighting, heating etc.); a pool table, which is free on Sundays and we have a fun pool night on a Thursday night, as well as a pool team that play on some Tuesdays during the autumn / winter / spring; a dart board and dart team that play most Mondays during the autumn / winter / spring; terrestrial TV; internet connected jukebox; free WiF and outside seating areas.

There are plans for late 2019 / early 2020 to start serving food again on a regular basis, however with enough notice, we can cater for any occasion - please contact us to discuss your requirements.

We have started to have regular live music nights and plan to have these at least once a month from January 2020 onwards. We also have regular quiz nights and other fun events!
